A recap of the Astros/Red Sox Series at Fenway.
It is no secret that the Red Sox have played better than maybe anyone had thought when the 2024 season first started, and when they needed to turn the engines on full blast when playing three against Kansas City, they rose to the challenge, busting through “the door,” just as manager Alex Cora had mentioned right before the All-Star break. Not only did we see a potential postseason match-up; we also got to see the only two players who have started every game for their respective American League clubs, Red Sox’s Jarren Duran and the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr.

That series allowed us to see the Sox gel again finally after a rough start to the second half. They seemed to turn it around, giving Red Sox nation a few extra morsels of hope. Now positioned only one game back in the Wild Card race, the Sox were hoping to benefit from an Astros team who was no stranger to struggle at the beginning of the season, and who, like the Red Sox, have also been no stranger to injury. With their star right fielder, Kyle Tucker, out plus a myriad of Astros Pitchers, the Red Sox were hoping to capitalize on the struggles of the first-place AL West team.
Hopes of defeating the Astros seemed to be as close as the Red Sox got in the beginning series of this home stand. With the lead being within grasp the first two games, both players and fans were hoping with bated breath that the Red Sox bullpen could pull out the win at least one night, but to no avail.
Despite the disappointment, the team didn’t lose sight of the Wild Card. The challenges they faced only seemed to strengthen their resolve and will hopefully perform better against the Rangers’ second series in two weeks and they will make a strong push towards securing the third position in the Wild Card race.
The energy and enthusiasm of Red Sox Nation continues to drive the team. As noted at the beginning of the season by the 27-28 record at home. As they look ahead to upcoming opportunities to showcase the unique bond this group has formed, hopefully, they’ll be able to take another few games from the Rangers as they look ahead to brace themselves for one of their toughest roadtrips yet, to Baltimore and, as Baseball Gods with only the finest sense of humor could devise, to Minute Maid park to take on the Astros again.
